SUMMARY:Francois Brun - The H.E.S.S. Galactic Plane Survey
DESCRIPTION:H.E.S.S. (High Energy Stereoscopic System) is a hybrid array of five Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes observing the very high energy gamma-ray sky. In the past decade\, this experiment has significantly contributed to the field of ground-based gamma-ray astronomy. In particular\, the H.E.S.S. Galactic plane survey (HGPS)\, conducted from 2004 to 2013\, was the first high-resolution (~0.1 deg) and sensitive (~1.5% Crab Nebula point-source sensitivity) survey of the Milky Way in TeV gamma-rays. Comprising ~2800-hrs of observation time\, it revealed the existence of a diverse population of cosmic accelerators in the Galaxy. In this talk I will present an overview of the results from this decade-long H.E.S.S. survey program.
