Triple success for ECAP early-career scientists in FAUeti
FAUeti, FAU’s Emerging Talent Initiative, supports excellent early-career researchers on their path towards high-rank third-party funding applications. We proudly report that in the last application round three scientists from ECAP have been awarded ETI grants:
Dr. Alba Domi is a fellow of the EU Marie Sklodowska-Curie program and currently works in ECAP’s neutrino astronomy group on searches for signatures of quantum gravity effects. She intends to apply for an ERC Starting Grant for building a research group investigating these and related aspects of fundamental physics under her lead.
Dr. Jutta Schnabel has studied physics and, subsequently, Human Rights at FAU and currently holds a postdoctoral position funded through an EU project. She works for the KM3NeT neutrino telescope on open science aspects. She receives support for preparing ERC or DFG applications that will use language-based artificial intelligence to enhance open science based on a an ethical approach.
Dr. Ekaterina Sokolova-Lapa is an X-ray astronomer in an early postdoctoral position at the Dr. Karl Remeis Observatory in Bamberg. About a year ago she defended her PhD thesis on X-ray emission from accreting neutron stars with distinction. She plans to investigate magnetic accretion in a broader context and aims to narrow the gap between theoretical modeling and observations. For the latter task, she plans to submit a DFG proposal to hire a PhD student.
All awardees obtain financial support for travel, hiring student assistants, publication costs, and also for participating in the FAUNext career development programme.
We cordially congratulate Alba, Ekaterina and Jutta and wish them good success in their upcoming applications!
An already funded initiative by ECAP member Dr. Samuel Spencer will see its main event, the workshop Synergies in Non-Thermal Astrophysics in Southern Africa, take place at the ECAP Laboratory from 29/07 to 03/08/2024.
