ECAP Hosts Workshop Dedicated To Multi-Wavelength Synergies in Southern Africa
During the week beginning 29th of July, ECAP hosted a workshop dedicated to exploring multi-wavelength synergies between telescope facilities in southern Africa (Agenda). Researchers working on the gamma-ray observing High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) telescopes based at ECAP met with researchers working on the radio telescope MeerKAT, the optical South African Large Telescope (SALT) and the upcoming African Millimetre Telescope (AMT). Topics covered included galactic, extragalactic and transient astronomy, in addition to stellar intensity interferometry. Hands-on sessions on how to prepare observing proposals for the relevant instruments were also held. The workshop was supported by an FAU Emerging Talents Initiative grant awarded to Dr. Samuel Spencer, which allowed for a number of researchers from Africa to visit ECAP in-person. It is planned that connections made during the workshop will persist, and will result in joint observing proposals or analysis in the future.
