39 physics students joined Anna Nelles and Robert Lahmann for two days in Zeuthen and Hamburg to learn about large experiments, accelerators and photon science. They first toured the DESY campus in Zeuthen, seeing the construction of medium-sized telescopes for CTAO. Really not so medium-sized: M48 screws really are impressively large in real life. They then continued to Hamburg with a visit to the HERA tunnel, once hosting Germany’s largest accelerator, the x-ray source FLASH, and the PETRA III beamlines. The visit was rounded off with a quick stop at the XFEL peaking into all the newest X-ray experiments and the exhibition.
